Point, click, shoot, or is it lights, camera, action?
Both of which are proving to be a bit of a struggle for me at the moment.
You see, I’m not the world’s most technical person. In fact, I’m the person who loves to get gadgets or software that works, and then try and break it, or at the very least, push it to its limits.
I’m also like this when it comes to cameras and photography. You see, the only camera I’ve used consistently for any length of time, is the one in my phone and well, it’s kinda limited but also a hell of a lot easier than some of the camera’s I’ve seen out there.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with my phone camera, but I figured if this blog is where I’m at, then I’m going to have to invest in a good quality camera, that is going to take fantastic, clear, bright images and make some of my recipes even more mouth-watering. The competition is fierce when it comes to good photography that entices you, the reader.
You only have to look at the thousands, if not millions of photos on the #Instagram platform to see that.
Given my lack thereof, or complete incompetence for lack of a better phrase, and after much research, I have equipped myself with a Canon EOS D200 DSLR camera.
Now, it’s not the cheapest camera, but it’s also not the most expensive on the market and it comes inclusive with a lens, making it a kit camera. If you feel you need more than one lens, you can pay a little bit more and get a second lens with it. Therefore, making it a pretty good beginners kit, in my professional opinion…haha.
So what attracted me to this camera as opposed to any other:-
EASE OF USE
This camera like a few others has a fully automatic function which can figure out if I’m taking a selfie, a food pic, or a photo of the mountains in the distance. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Also, if you are wanting to learn photography, the screen shows a guided display which can teach you about the different settings without you having to carry around the user manual.
PRICE POINT
As far as price goes, this won out for me. As mentioned, before, not the cheapest and also not the most expensive, but it is in the midway to $1k mark and I think it’s a lot of camera for that price.
WEIGHT
This camera has been documented as being the world’s lightest DSLR camera and that’s not a bad thing. If you are intending to lug a camera around with you, then you are going to want something relatively light slung over your shoulder.
BLUETOOTH / WIFI
Another cool gadget it is that you can connect your phone to it, not only to upload from the camera directly but, to also use your phone as a remote control. So if you have a tripod, you can stand in front, strike a pose and discreetly take a photo by pressing the button on your phone.
Having this feature also allows you to upload to your phone and share amongst your social media follows quickly and hassle free.
FLIP OUT SCREEN
I love this thing. I can leave it closed and use the viewfinder, or flip it out and and turn it around for a selfie or angle it for an overhead food pic. No more selfies of the top of my head or the people behind me and I’m nowhere to be seen. So, flipping this viewfinder around, means I can now see myself rather than fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Anything that makes my life easier and for me to captcha better photos, is good in my books.
So there you have it. My personal and totally non-professional view of my new Canon EOS 200D.
If you are in the market for a new camera, or wanting to get into photography, then this camera is worth a look.
