Last week I was fortunate enough to travel for work. Not something that happens all that frequently for me anymore, so I was super eager and happy when it did.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t all pleasure and leisure as there was a whole stack of work to get through, but the night before I was due to board the aircraft of escape, I noticed on my ticket that we weren’t travelling on a current model aircraft, you know, the ones with screens in the back of the chair or WIFI connectivity.
Instead I was travelling on one of the original aircraft that was built before mobile phones and I would even go so far as to say, before I was invented.
That meant only one thing for me to do. Jump on my broomstick and fly there myself? Um…no.
It meant that I needed to get my flight survival kit in place and quickly, whilst I still had access to modern day technology.
Below are my top 5 things to get me through these flights:-
5. Chupa Chups/Lollipops
Now before you roll your eyes and flick to another site, bear with me. Did you know that sucking on a lollipop can assist your ears in pressurizing. I know weird huh, but when Miss Y started screaming the other day that her ear was sore, this was one of the remedies to assist in alleviating the pressure and it worked for her, along with some medications, but it also worked for me on the flight, minus the medications, plus it was way more fun than eating grown-up hard boiled candy.
4. Wet Wipes
Love these things! I’m not much for using those little bottles of hand sanitiser, I always find that they leave my hands feeling dry and sticky. However, wet wipes can be used as a hand sanitiser, great for cleaning up spills and can also double up as a tissue if required.
3. Water
Obvious right? But so many people don’t travel with water. Taking a bottle of water with me on all flights means that I can stay hydrated throughout the flight, bonus, but best of all, I can slurp away at any time I want, rather than waiting for the attendant to come and take my order.
2. Noise Cancelling Headphones
OMG….I can’t rave on about these enough. I was given a set of noise cancelling headphones for Christmas by Coach and I absolutely love them. I didn’t realise just how great they were until I got on the airplane and plugged in. They blocked out at least 90% of the noise as well as the person next to me, double bonus who was seriously trying to break the record for the number of drinks one could consume in a 2 hour flight.
Drum roll please……..my top thing I can’t travel without is…..
1. Download your favourite shows/movies
The morning of, I started downloading the new series of Orange is New Black – luv BTW and I’m glad I did. This way I was able to sit through my flights with my noise cancelling headphones and really binge watch Season 6 without interruption, whilst everyone else on the aircraft stared out the window or at the seat back in front of them.
So there you have it, my top 5 things that I don’t get on a plane without. What are yours?
