Are you looking for a way to spend a day in Byron? If so, in this blog post I’m going to share with you my 8 favourite things to do (which include, a couple that I am desperate to try) whilst visiting Byron Bay.
Swim
Cool off with a refreshing dip at the infamous Wategos Beach and enjoy the peace and quiet if you are there early enough. Or join the crew around at Main Beach, which offers close proximity to restaurants, food and live entertainment. Or you could explore more of the stunning beaches nearby.
Shopping
Looking for some retail therapy? There are loads of great clothes, arts and crafts shops in Byron and all within walking distance. Take a leisurely stroll around the township and I’m sure you’ll find that something special.
Chill Out
It’s so nice to just find that quiet place away from it all and Byron offers a few great parklands on or near the water that you can find a nice shady tree, curl up with a coffee and a good book and chillax.
Cape Byron Lighthouse & Lighthouse Trail
Head up to Cape Byron and check out the historical lighthouse. Look around the Conservation Park and walk out to the most Eastern part of mainland Australia.
Whale Watch
Sit out on the Cape and keep an eye out on the horizon for those amazing creatures of the deep. Whale Watching season is from June to October as the Humpbacks do their annual migration up and down the coastline. Handy hint: Pack the binoculars.
If you are looking for something a little more adventurous:
Learn To Surf
Sick of sitting on the beach and watching everyone else catch waves? Why not spend a few hours learning from the professionals. You could be the next Kelly Slater!
Shark Diving
Up for some serious adventure? Head out to Julian Rocks and swim with the sharks, of course you will want to do this with a specialised tour operator.
Kayaking with Dolphins
There are a couple of operators who are more than willing to take you out around the headland on a kayak where you will see dolphins up close and be able to catch a wave or two back to the beach.
What are your favourite things to do in Byron Bay? Any tips for me? Have you don the shark dive or kayaking with the dolphins? If so, I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below.
