Strawberries, Cream & Brown Sugar – ’nuff said really!
This has to be one of my mum’s favourite go to desserts and I’ve been eating this dish since I was a yougin’ and it’s still a favourite today, some decades later. Well not too many, but at least…..er…..a couple, that’s fair to say.
Strawberries are currently in season here in Australia and there is an abundance of these sweet and succulent little red gems all over the green grocers and supermarkets. It’s soooo hard to walk past and not pick up a punnet or two. Guilty!
I must admit that my favourite way to eat them is in their natural state and sometimes they really are better left untouched, or, well, perhaps enhanced just a little, with a bit of decadence. Of course by decadence I mean, freshly whipped cream and then gently coated in brown sugar.
There’s something about this combination that just makes it work, as the sugar doesn’t over-power the natural sweetness of the strawberry at all. This is a great ‘go to’ dessert for when guests drop around unexpectedly or you are looking for something light to finish off a meal.
This literally takes five minutes to put together, so here’s a really quick ‘how to’.
Strawberries, Cream & Brown Sugar
- 1 punnet fresh strawberries washed
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons whipped cream
Place the washed strawberries on a plate
Add the brown sugar to one corner of the plate
Add the whipped cream to the other corner of the plate
— 001 —
Gently wash the Strawberries and leave to drip dry in the strainer whilst you prepare the cream.
— 002 —
Add some whipping cream to a bowl and with an electric mixer, whip into soft peaks.
— 003 —
On a serving plate add the Strawberries, Cream & Brown Sugar and serve.
That’s it! Oh and my tip; serve on individual plates, because it’s the only place that double dipping is allowed, and trust me, you will!
The other problem is; what to do when you run out of Strawberries but still have some left over cream and brown sugar?
Use your fingers! Tell me that you wouldn’t be able to resist doing this. You know you can’t!
I hope that you enjoy this dish as much as I have and will continue to do. How do you like your Strawberries?
